Have you ever wanted to own an electric car? or have you ever wanted to drive a Porsche 911? I wanted both, so I decided to build one. This blog is here to document my journey as I convert a 2002 Porsche 911/996 Carrera 2 from a gas guzzler to a completely electric vehicle - not a hybrid!

Vacuum system test

The vacuum pump, reservoir, and gauge arrived this week.  After a trip to Menards for some gas fittings, I was able to test the system as a complete unit before putting into the car.  Here is a quick video of the completed contraption.  It takes about 2 full minutes for the pump to reach the shutoff point with the reservoir attached.  It turns out the pump has an automatic shut off at 10 in Hg so I don't need the additional vacuum switch.

  1. Ray,
Thank you for the feedback! The pump did seem a little under powered when I tested it. I will look at your recommendations and find a new plan.

Thank you very much for the heads up!

  2. The amps specification also does not take into account how efficient the motor is, as well as other design factors, such as whether the motor has one or two fans (two is not necessarily better than one) and the overall efficiency of the vacuum cleaner design. lightweight vacuum cleaners
